Day 1:
Arrival at Rome airport. Welcome and transfer to Riviera di Ulisse. Accommodation at the Hotel. Welcome drink and meeting with your tour assistant for the illustration of the tour program. Dinner in hotel andovernight stay.
Day 2:
After breakfast departure for an intense day to spend at the beach. You can take the ferry to the island of Ponza from the port of Terracina. The Romans and the Bourbons loved Ponza because of its incredibly transparent waters. When you get to the island, we recommend a boat tour around it and an excursion to Palmarola, you don’t necessarily need flippers and a diving mask to enjoy the clear water and to observe the rich sounding-depth and its “cathedrals”, cliffs on sheer drops to the sea. Back to the hotel in the evening.Dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3:
After breakfast in the hotel, meeting the guide and departure for the Abbey complex of San Magno , an ancient palaeo-christian basilica dated back to 522 AD we will be stopping at the medieval mill where you can taste local products. Move on to visit Fondi which is full of traces of its ancient past and since it was located on the Via Appia between Rome and Naples past travellers were obliged to stop there. Transfer to Itri, a picturesque town of ancient origin with its mighty castle built between the 10th and 11th centuries. Visit the olive groves were the famous Gaeta olives are grown and produced. In the afternoon visit Maranola: a medieval centre, developed on a hill overlooking the Golf of Gaeta. The town winds along narrow lanes, alleys and piazzas in an atmosphere which brings us back in time. We stop to taste the “marzolino” a ypical goat cheese. In the evening return to the hotel, dinner and overnight stay
Day 4:
Breakfast in the hotel. Depart for Ciociaria , land of political power and an oasis for the spirit where the gastronomic tradition boasts a long history. The first stop is the magnificent Abbey of Montecassino , an important centre of culture and for the diffusion of the western monastic order. We will then head for Arpino which is considered one of the most prestigious centres in Ciociaria and the homeland of Cicero. This town was often praised in his works and he enjoyed to idle about far from the bustle of Rome. Followed by a banquet with a menu based on ancient recipes to rediscover dishes and customs from ancient Romans in Arpino ( served by waiters wearing Roman attire and a recipes from Apicio ) Visit Tulliano , a secondary school focusing on humanities where the competition named CertamenCiceronianumArpinas is held every year. In the evening transfer to the 4½ stars hotel in Veroli located in a renovated convent; check into the rooms, dinner and overnight stay
Day 5:
After breakfast in the hotel depart for the Certosa di Trisulti (Carthusian monastery) surrounded by one of the most striking landscapes in the centre of Italy. Visitors are attracted to the ancient pharmacy equipped with furniture from the 1700s and its very peculiar decoration. Guided tasting tour of drinks made of herbs from Mount Ernici. Lunch based on a typical menu from Ciociaria. In the afternoon move on to Veroli with its Scala Santa and Verolian splendour , an important Roman marble calendar. Tasting of extra-virgin olive oil. Followed by a visit to Alatri with its amazing cycloptic walls of the Acropolis and the Cathedral built in the 1600s on the remains of a temple dedicated to the God Saturn. In the evening return to the hotel, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 6:
Breakfast in the hotel. Leave for a visit to the magnificent Casamari Abbey with its cloister, a splendid chapter house, a refectory, library, art gallery and an ancient pharmacy where nowadays,like the past, distilled herbal drinks made from old recipes are still produced. Lunch in an organic farm house situated along a road in the valley where olive groves and grapevines have found their natural habitat.
In the afternoon visit to Anagni nicknamed the “City of Popes” because four popes came from there. You can see prehistoric remains and Roman walls and the mosaics in the medieval cathedral are almost intact. In this cathedral the emperor Federico Barbarossa was excommunicated. Of great interest also is the Palazzo di Bonifacio VIII and Casa Barnekow. In the evening return to the hotel, gala dinner, and overnight stay
